Lorena Perez Batista started her musical journey at an early age in her hometown Punto Fijo, Venezuela. With the support of her family, she traveled to the United States to study Composition and Production at Miami Dade College and at Berklee College of Music. While in Boston, Lorena shared the stage with wonderful artists like El Frente (aka ModaBeat), with whom she won national awards like the Vive Tu Musica battle of the bands. She was also part of world music groups like Rhythm of the Universe (ROTU) and Grooversity, with whom she performed at the Symphony Hall, the Boston Music Awards, the Hatch Shell, and TEDx. Lorena also participated in the worldwide female competition Hit Like A Girl, where she was voted #1 by the public and #5 by the judges.
Since Lorena moved to Los Angeles in 2013 her main focus has been to work as a session drummer, composer, and orchestrator with award winning Film & TV composers like; Elik Alvarez and Freddy Sheinfeld (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Ninja Turtles), Sandro Morales (Chosen, Notorious), Juan Carlos Rodriguez (East Los High, Matador), and John Swihart (How I Met Your Mother, Napoleon Dynamite).
For the last two years, Lorena has worked closely with composer and pianist Joachim Horsley (Rabbit Hole, Ben Folds' Piano Concerto). Together they recently worked on Spirit - Riding Free, an animated series by DreamWorks released this Summer on Netflix, where Lorena was featured as a drummer and orchestrator. They also worked on two film music albums by Audio Network, recording a full orchestra at Abbey Road and on two upcoming feature film thrillers. Lorena is also one of the percussionists and arrangers for an exciting audiovisual project by Joachim that combines classical music and world rhythms. His debut arrangement is called Beethoven in Havana and it has been viewed over 1 million times on YouTube.
Last year Lorena was also featured as a composer and percussionist for two Puerto Rican films working hand in hand with composer and pianist Juan Andrés Matos. One of the films was Yo Soy Un Político, a comedy feature about politics which had great success touring in International Film Festivals and was recently acquired by HBO. And the other film was Chatarra, a drama short which won "Best Music and Sound", "Best Script", "Best Cinematography", and "Best Short" at the Festival de Cine Europeo.
Aside from drumming, composing and orchestrating, Lorena loves teaching at the Academy of Music for the Blind. There she spends quality time sharing her drum abilities with some of the most gifted kids in Los Angeles. For the last 4 years, Lorena has found a family away from home at AMB, teaching music and drums while developing new strategies to teach the blind, but also learning about life, love, and joy from these amazing students.
Currently, Lorena is composing and producing a bilingual children's album where she will be featured as a drummer using world rhythms to teach babies and toddlers about music, language, and early childhood development. She is also working with Joachim Horsley on an upcoming animated series by Disney XD which will be released next year.
